It is not a hard wall — many factories will run 200–300 pieces — but the pricing changes materially, because the setup work (die-making, cover lamination, binding changeover) is spread over fewer units.

- Spec lock and quote (2–3 days). Confirm size, PU grade, page count, logo method, packaging. Request a digital mockup before tooling.
- Sample (7–12 days plus shipping). Pre-production sample with the real PU, real paper, real debossing depth. Approve a physical sample — not a rendering.
- Material and tooling (5–7 days). PU film ordered to lot, debossing die cut, print plates made.
- Cover making. PU laminated to grey board, wrapped, corner-folded, pressed. This is where a cheap factory reveals itself: corners lift, edges show board.
- Printing and binding (10–15 days). Inner pages printed, folded, collated, sewn or glued, then cased into the cover.
- Finishing and packing. Logo stamping, ribbon and elastic, belly band or gift box, carton packing.
- QC and shipment. AQL inspection, then FOB or DDP depending on your Incoterm.

- Cover fold test: 50+ folds along the hinge — no whitening or separation of the PU coating.

- Corner wrapping: all four corners tight, no board peeking through, no wrinkles.
- Page count and gsm: count a random unit, weigh a page bundle — verify 160pp really means 160 pages, not 80 sheets counted twice.
- Binding strength: open to the centre spread and shake; pages should not pull free on a sewn book.

Is PU leather worse than genuine leather?
They are different products. PU is uniform, consistent in color, printable and far cheaper; genuine cowhide is unique, ages, and costs 2–3x. For corporate gifting with a logo, PU is the mainstream choice. For a luxury retail line, genuine leather can justify the price.
Can you put a logo on a PU leather cover?
Yes — debossing (blind stamp), foil stamping in gold, silver or color, silk-screen, or a metal plate. Debossing and foil give the most premium look and require a one-time die, usually 40–120 USD depending on size and detail.
Why is my 200-piece quote so much higher per unit?
